Complete the necessary education
An
associate’s degree in engineering technology is a good choice for this
profession. Programs that explore engineering and electronics provide solid
technical training focused on practical skills. Courses may include
microprocessors, C ++ and physics programs. Some employers offer training
programs for high school graduates, and for some jobs, a career certificate is sufficient.
Some
jobs may require a bachelor’s degree in engineering or technological
engineering. Although several engineering degree programs are available, major
mechanical engineering offers the most extensive training. Course assignments
may include computer-assisted writing (CAD) programs, as well as math, physics,
machinery, and chemistry classes. Some programs allow students to choose a
specialty, such as aerospace or petroleum engineering.
Develop
good communication skills
Most
employers expect employees to have well-developed communication or customer
service skills, as field service engineers can be the primary point of contact
between the company and the customer. Field service engineers must be able to
speak effectively and explain complex processes in simple terms. For students
earning a degree, communication courses may be among their general educational
needs or elective options.
